—the list doesnt ends here—
Recently( 2nd June ,2008 ) IIT Kanpur alumni association filed an application under the Right to Information Act to find out roots of the extreme steps taken by students. The results were a bit shocking to many.
It says The Internet and the Mobile Phone led to a large number of suicides. A 24×7 connection with the Virtual world and a 4-5 hrs of daily use of mobile phones connects the students with their family and make them a part of every problem arising at home.internet surfing exposes the students to several sites having information that can cause a negative impact on the minds.Apart from that students find lots of pressures both from their academics and their Parents.
Internet surfing exposes the students to several sites having information that can cause a negative impact on the minds, leading students to suicides according to the results.
According to Professor Prakash Gopalan, Dean, Students’ Welfare, IIT-Bombay “We can’t really say that the Internet and mobile phones drive students to suicide as there are many parents who act as support systems via Internet and cellphones.”
Consequently IIT Delhi Director Surendra Prasad comments that “mobile phones and internet cannot be linked, to suicides. To reach such a conclusion you need to sociologically study past history and data and do a detailed survey. At IIT Delhi we have not done any such thing.”
Some different views.
The brand “IIT” have no role to play here.An IITian or a Non-IItian both have a 24×7 Internet access with long duration mobile chat with friends and family members. An Indian or a Japanese or Chinese or US student all have access to this electronic facilited virtual world.Suicide rate is highest in Japan.Should we blame the Virtual world for it?
I have heard about thosands of reasons behind the suicide of an IITian.Inablility to persue academics, inability to be accepted by his class-mates ,love triangle , Internet addiction. A person fed up with Academics ,getting X grades, sometimes get addicted to the Internet,anime,X-Men.Anyone among them who escapes into the internet world does it only for one reason: to fulfill a human being’s very basic need – a sense of belonging. This is something which fuels for the idea of relinquishing self, when the individual lacks that sense of belongingness.
If you blame the Internet for suicides then add to the list..Internet causes inflation deflation in stock markets which rises to Oil Proces subsequently everything. The internet can be used by unscrupulous people to spread cruel and immoral images and information and it’s difficult to act against them at present. and blah blah blah…
So close the Internet.
Do any one remember we used to write an essay or composition on the topic “Is science a Bless or Curse?”
I think we should find some better solution
